The term eco-village has different meanings to almost everyone who has ever used the word. Here are a few interesting ones from near and far that are worth checking out.
Global Ecovillage Network – “The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a growing network of sustainable communities and initiatives that bridge different cultures, countries, and continents. GEN serves as umbrella organization for ecovillages, transition town initiatives, intentional communities, and ecologically-minded individuals worldwide”
Earthaven Ecovillage – “Earthaven is an aspiring ecovillage in a mountain forest setting near Asheville, North Carolina”; “dedicated to caring for people and the Earth by learning, living, and demonstrating a holistic, sustainable culture.”
Ecovillage Ithaca – An eco-village started in the early 90’s in upstate New York. Very successful education and community programs.
Greater Stonehenge – A fledgling eco-village community just outside the heart of Charlottesville
